PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
